Here is my two cents on the gay marriage issue:
Although I understand the opinion of anti-marriage individuals who are against the institution of marriage for many reasons, I feel that it is not ok to keep other people of all sexualities from being able to choose marriage or not.
There are many benefits to marriage including access to your loved one’s medical records and decisions, legal rights, and rights to children within the marriage. I feel like people who do support marriage equality and want to express their commitment this way should not be stopped, just as people who choose not to marry have the freedom to do so.
That is all. Marriage equality for all!!

The marriage debate
I know there is a lot of discussion about whether gay marriage should be legal (it should) and whether marriage is a racist, sexist institution. Some are against the idea of marriage altogether. In my personal opinion I believe that it is easy to be against the institution of marriage and talk it down. As a person with children and who has friends who want to marry but can’t legally, I believe that we shouldn’t jump so fast to the conclusion of ‘marriage is bad’. There are many legal benefits to marriage. Insurance, the right to medical records of spouses and children, rights to decision making and custody regarding children, and the sense of commitment that a couple wishes for. Marriage is not perfect and has many societal faults but it is easy to put down a luxury some have when you have the access to it. Everyone deserves this right and it should be their own choice whether to utilize it or not.
